“To be a Jew means first belonging to the group...”
— Mordecai Kaplan

Thank you for your interest in Shirat Hayam. Shirat Hayam is Hebrew for “Song of the Sea.” Just as the ocean constantly renews itself, we too strive to renew and revitalize ourselves in our Jewish faith. Our community is built upon the principles of prayer, education, and Tikkun Olam (making the world a better place). We are an inclusive congregation, welcoming all who are interested in practicing a meaningful and contemporary form of Judaism within a warm and supportive environment.

Shirat Hayam is a vibrant and growing Reconstructionist Congregation. Our members are from many South Shore towns and include a number of interfaith families. Reconstructionist Judaism is a progressive, contemporary approach to Jewish life integrating a deep respect for traditional Judaism with the insights and ideas of contemporary social, intellectual and spiritual life. Reconstructionism began in the 1940’s and is recognized as the fastest growing denomination among North American Jews. Founded in 1996, Shirat Hayam is a member of the Jewish Reconstructionist Federation as well as the Greater Boston Region of the Synagogue Council of Massachusetts.

We aspire to a Judaism that serves as a rich source of spiritual self-expression and moral challenge in the way we conduct our lives. I would very much like to discuss our congregation, our religious school, and the wonderful resources, events, and community that we have to offer at Shirat Hayam. Please feel free to contact me with any questions at 781.582.2700.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Shalom,
Chuck Goldman
