Rabbi Rachel Schoenfeld is thrilled to begin this year as the Rabbi of Congregation Shirat Hayam. Rabbi Rachel is a graduate of the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College, and comes to Shirat Hayam with experience in leading congregations in Montreal and Texas, as well as years of experience in education. Rabbi Rachel looks forward to singing, praying, learning, and celebrating with Shirat Hayam!
This past year, Rabbi Rachel taught Judaic Studies at Baltimore's Shoshana S. Cardin School and worked with Beth Am, a Reconstructionist Congregation in Texas. During her studies at the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College, Rachel was the student rabbi of the Ottawa Reconstructionist Havurah in Canada. She has a strong background in Jewish Education with an undergraduate degree from McGill University in this area. She has also taught children in both formal and informal Jewish education for the past ten years.
Originally from Toronto, Rachel has lived in Canada, Israel, and the United States. Rachel is a dialog facilitator, as well as a scribal artist. In addition to working with Shirat Hayam this year, Rachel is teaching a course at The Jewish Community Day School, commuting to Texas to continue working with Beth Am, and hoping to write Mezuzot. She is looking forward to learning, praying, and celebrating with everyone!
